Celebrating Service Around the World with Ball Employees
September 30, 2024
At Ball, our team members are the core of the company's culture. To celebrate their service in the community, we’re pleased to share three stories of Ball employees who are making a difference in the communities where they live and work across the globe.
CODY TUNSTALL, Supervisor, Plant Training Programs, BPNCA, Williamsburg, VA, USA
Cody has been volunteering with his local fire department since 2016. In his community, as in many communities across the US, Cody’s fire department relies solely on volunteers. This means if an individual or family in the community needs rescue or emergency service, there are no paid staff available to support. The department relies completely on generous volunteers in the community to show up at any time of need.
When asked about the impact that his work has brought to his community, he said it has been “tremendous.” Explaining further he said, “The people of my community are able to sleep with peace of mind every night knowing that if any emergency were to happen, there will be a full team of first responders coming to help. That feeling alone makes all of the hours spent volunteering worth it.”
ERICK DE CAMPOS SANTOS, Reporting & Data Analytics Analyst, Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil
Erick believes in supporting the most vulnerable community members at both ends of the age spectrum. He’s an active volunteer who pours his energy into two organizations: Hamburgada do Bem and Elderly People Nursing Home.
At Hamburgada do Bem, Erick prepares meals for children living in socially vulnerable situations and provides moments of love and joy for the children, who may not always be receiving them at home. He believes that children deserve to be shown that they are valued through attention and affection.
It's a way to give back and feel that I am making a difference in their lives. It's amazing to see how small actions can create significant changes in people's lives.
Erick became involved with Elderly People Nursing Home because he believes that elderly people are deserving of attention, respect and care. “Often, the elderly can feel lonely and being there to listen to their stories and spend time with them helps alleviate some of that loneliness. The life experience and wisdom they share are incredibly enriching."
When asked why he volunteers, Erick said, “Both places allow me to connect with different stages of life and offer something meaningful, whether through feeding and caring for children or through companionship and support for the elderly."
SUSAN OMORDIA, Director, Environmental Health & Safety, Devizes, United Kingdom
During the winter months, unhoused people face dark, long, cold, and lonely nights on the streets. As an organization close to Susan’s heart for eight years, The Winter Night Shelter steps up to help and supports local churches to provide safe warm beds for the night, wholesome meals, and much needed company.
In addition to regular volunteer duties such as meal preparation and cleanup, Susan sits down to enjoy meals and conversations with those at the shelter. Each conversation offers her a unique takeaway. “I have learned not to judge the homeless as often it's not what people think that results in homelessness but multiple complex factors. I feel tremendously blessed and this in my opportunity to give back and service those in my community.”
These Ball employees are a reminder to us that any moment of action, big or small, can make a positive impact on our communities. Thank you for your service!
